Following the highly successful release of Diablo II for the PC, Blizzard Entertainment is seriously considering a console version of the game. In fact, company officials are intrigued by new network compatible consoles such as the Microsoft Xbox and PlayStation 2. However, officially the company would only confirm that a decision to develop the game for console platforms has not been made at this time. A representative of Blizzard Entertainment told GameSpot. "If we were [to develop Diablo II for consoles], we would approach it as an original development."

　　Blizzard stressed that any console version of Diablo II would be more than a mere port or conversion. That could point to several console-specific changes, as in the PlayStation version of the original Diablo, where the control scheme was tweaked and a two-player mode was added. Additionally, with the introduction of the network capable next-generation consoles, the inclusion of online multiplayer options is also a strong possibility.

　　Diablo II has already seen substantial success following its PC release. The game sold over 1 million copies in its first two weeks and it accounted for 39 percent of all PC game sales during its first week.
