Boston-based Rock Band and Dance Central studio Harmonix has parted ways with two staffers, but the independent company is stressing that "there is no layoff." Harmonix marketing executive Darren Williams explained the recent news in statement, saying two job losses on Monday were the result of positions falling out of alignment with Harmonix's plans.
"As the studio evolves so do the skills required of our team," he said in a statement to Game Informer. "Some new skills are needed, as illustrated by our large number of open roles and recent internal promotions. And some skills are not quite a perfect fit and so changes are made as happened with two people today. And to state once more, there is no layoff. Quite the contrary, we are looking for new people as you can clearly see on our careers page."
Indeed, Harmonix has 11 open positions posted to its careers website across a range of disciplines.
The job losses, affecting two game designers, were announced on Monday. Harmonix's latest game, the new Amplitude, was released today, January 12, on PlayStation 4.
"Ultimately, Amplitude fails to recapture the magic that elevated the original to cult status, but it does deliver an impressive and enjoyable slice of quick-hit rhythm gaming fun," GameSpot reviewer Scott Butterworth said in his 7/10 critique of the rhythm game.
