Quake proficiency has been a nice way to earn a tidy sum for a while now, but now there's a way for the uber-Descent 3 player to walk off with a princely prize - US$50,000 in fact. Interplay's Tantrum division, Case's Ladder and HEAT.net are putting together a Descent 3 tourney whose winner will take home 50 grand and the "ultimate gaming PC from Gateway."
Interested players can sign up for the tournament on the Case's Ladder site. There will be three tournament rounds, a preliminary and semi-finals round (both to be played online over HEAT.net) and a final LAN-based event to be held this summer at a location yet to be announced. (Interplay says they'll announce where the finals will take place once the full version of Descent 3 is released.) Case's Ladder is managing the tournament. Preliminary play will use the Descent 3 demo, while the semi-final round will use the retail version of the game.
