Virtua Fighter 5 rolls out in Japan
Virtua Fighter 5 rolls out in Japan-November 2024
Nov 30, 2024 2:25 AM

Virtua Fighter 5 is off and pummeling in Japanese arcades, according to the game's official Web site. The game makes use of Sega's new Lindbergh arcade board and will sport a number of enhancements to the VF.NET online service. In addition to the actual game, two machines, the VF Terminal and VF.TV, are being introduced.

The VF Terminal provides a touch panel that allows customization of IC card (basically a memory card) data. For example, players can use the machine to edit their ring names and write profiles. They can also use the touch panel to tweak their character costumes while viewing the results on the display.

The other new display, VF.TV, is dedicated to delivering Virtua Fighter 5 content to arcades. This will allow live broadcasts of high-profile matches with blow-by-blow commentary. It will also feature programs that provide fighting tips, hints on using the VF Terminal, and Virtua Fighter news. The VF.TV terminals can be refreshed with new content as needed through a network connection.

Finally, for a 100 yen fee (about $1), VF.NET will also let players save replays of their favorite battles. They can later download the replays as digital video to their home PCs.
