The Worst Reviewed Games of 2015
The Worst Reviewed Games of 2015-January 2024
Jan 12, 2025 7:47 AM

GameSpot recently unveiled its pick for the 25 best games of 2015, showcasing the most outstanding titles released during the last 12 months (if you missed our countdown, check out all of our selections by clicking here). But not every game this year was a critical success. Some games shipped in near unplayable states, whilst others simply lacked any creative or fun sparks that would deem them worthwhile to play.

From not-so-sprawling RPGs to action games with poor controls, the list of worst reviewed games in 2015 spans a wide range of genres and platforms. Join us as we look back at the lowest scoring games (anything rating 3/10 or below) GameSpot reviewed in the previous 12 months.

Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma Volume One

"Every moment brings new problems to light, and it doesn't take long before you want to put the controller down and walk away. Revenge of Kuma makes for a better album than a game, but I wouldn't recommend buying it for that reason either, since you're required to suffer the game to listen to music that's trapped within." Score: 2/10

The Legend of Candlewind: Nights & Candles

"No matter how starved you might be for old-timey role-playing, give The Legend of Candlewind a wide berth. This is a terrible, aggravating experience bound to disappoint you no matter how much you might want to relive the glory days of Eye of the Beholder." Score: 2/10

Wander

"Without character customization or any semblance of proper communication, (Wander) has nothing to offer in place of its sacrifices. Like Sisyphus on a treadmill, I fruitlessly walked around in hopes of discovering something worthwhile. Unless this game can find its way, discovery will remain a lost cause." Score: 2/10

Worlds of Magic

"Choices about your leader and civilization that should matter lack weight in favor of same-ish armies and leaders that blend together. Grand-scale strategy that should make any player feel powerful, or at the least clever, gives way to the dullest slog. Worlds of Magic tries to mimic the cleverness of its superiors, but reaches far beyond its ability to perform." Score: 2/10

Godzilla

"When the fracas begins, textureless structures collapse in an explosion of sparks and smoke, King Ghidorah spews forth a stream of electricity, and the attack knocks Space Godzilla onto his back. Such events may mirror Godzilla films, but actually taking part in them reveals a laughable array of awfulness." Score: 3/10

Red Goddess: Inner World

"Red Goddess: Inner World gives you many reasons to put the controller down and walk away. The later platforming sequences are frustratingly difficult, the load times are excruciatingly protracted, the combat is sloppy, and sometimes the game just breaks. Jumping up walls and across crevices can be fun, but that's not nearly enough when everything else is such a chore to play." Score: 3/10

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5

"Within THPS5 lies a basic skating game that's difficult to enjoy, because you have to jump over numerous hoops and ignore a plethora of obvious issues to find the smallest amount of fun. Previous THPS games were able to capture your imagination, and motivate you through character progression, gear, interesting levels, and even a great soundtrack. The soundtrack in THPS5 is good enough, but the game is riddled with technical glitches and design missteps, making it a huge step back for the series." Score: 3/10

LA Cops

"LA Cops has the pieces that could have been used to build an interesting shooter, but they only occasionally come together. The result is a frequently maddening slog through isometric hell, framed by a broken story and sloppy mechanics, suggesting that what the game needed more than anything was further play testing and refinement." Score: 3/10

Shadowrun Chronicles: Boston Lockdown

"Shadowrun Chronicles isn't just a bad Shadowrun game. It's a bad game. That it comes from a series with such an exceptional pedigree and plenty of exceptional recent successes just makes the disappointment that much more bitter." Score: 3/10

Q*Bert Rebooted

"Even if the game featured stable controls, the overall package is still mediocre at best. But with the bad controls, compounded by lackadaisical graphics and boring gameplay, Q*bert: Rebooted never had the potential to shine anyway. Q*bert, old friend, you deserve better." Score: 3/10

Color Guardians

"Color Guardians features a concept that's still new enough to feel fresh, and makes the most of it. All too often, though, the stages are designed in such a way that you're tricked into failing, and any technical issues stand out more than they might elsewhere because precise timing and concentration are so vital to success." Score: 3/10

Magnetic: Cage Closed

"Magnetic: Cage Closed is not a puzzle platformer that will tickle your brain and push your problem-solving capabilities. Extreme repetition, poor controls, and a barely there story makes this game a dull proposition from start to finish." Score: 3/10

Hatred

"Hatred is too repetitive to be exciting, too dumb to be frightening, too basic for you to feel accomplished at its end, too dour to be violently cathartic, too self-serious to engender ironic amusement, and yet still too childish to matter. It will be given more credit than it’s worth--all a game like this can do is provide meager table scraps to a ravenous desire already deeply embedded in pre-existing monsters, and that's not a problem that treating Hatred as Videodrome made (new) flesh will cure. The fact that the final product fails even to be worth a primal psychotic scream of victory against society at large for the people it might encourage means it laughably fails even at being dangerous." Score 3/10

Devil's Third

"Despite the occasional laughs and wonderfully weird multiplayer modes, Devil's Third is near-impossible to recommend. The numerous issues with the controls as well as crucial elements of the game's combat systems soon mount up to provide an experience that frustrates far more often than it entertains, resulting in a missed opportunity for what could've been a cult hit." Score: 3/10
