Details are now emerging on some of the new features that will be found in ESPN Major League Baseball 2K5, due in early spring. Two new features being introduced should make for some interesting game twists:
Maximum Fielding -- Obviously a riff on the maximum passing technique used in the ESPN NFL game, maximum fielding will make use of the right thumbstick to turn around big defensive plays such as wall climbs and sliding or diving catches.
K Zone Pitching -- Based on the K Zone technology found on ESPN's Baseball Tonight, K Zone adds a new twist on the pitching formulas found in many console baseball games. It works like this: First, a player picks a pitch type and zone to aim for. In order to successfully complete your chosen pitch and location, you'll need to line up a horizontal and vertical point. Presumably the ease of lining up these two points will change depending on factors such as game situation, pitcher skill and fatigue. It sounds eerily familiar to the free throw mechanic found in EA's NBA Live franchise.
