The Last of Us Part II, arguably the most anticipated PlayStation 4 exclusive still in the pipeline to hit the console, will release in February 2020 according to a new rumor.
The source was shared by administrator ZhugeEX, who is also a Senior Analyst at Niko Investors. Apparently, Sony is preparing four different editions: Standard, Special, Collector's and Ellie.
This is the same source that revealed the release date of Death Stranding, another big PlayStation 4 exclusive, to be set for November this year.
Of course, it should be stressed this is simply a rumor for the time being. However, Kotaku's Jason Schreier also previously said he heard February 2020 as a possible launch date for The Last of Us Part II from his sources.
It may be a while until Sony confirms the game's definitive date, but if February 2020 turned out to be correct, gamers would be in for an incredibly epic first half of next year. We've already got games like Final Fantasy VII Remake, Watch Dogs: Legion, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, Dying Light 2, Wasteland 3, Cyberpunk 2077 and Marvel's Avengers all due between Q1 and Q2 2020.
It's also worth noting that such an early release date would be unusual for Naughty Dog games, which have usually been launched either in May/June or October/November. Then again, The Last of Us Part II could certainly sell extremely well regardless of the month, and Sony already tested February/March successfully with Horizon: Zero Dawn.
