Having been around since the early 1970s, Lupin III has been a star of both comics and animation in Japan. In the US, Lupin isn't quite as well-known, but he can be found in domestic releases of a few of his animated exploits, such as Castle of Cagliostro, Plot of the Fuma Clan, and others, released by Orion and Animeigo. For those who don't know, Lupin is a master thief whose exploits are tracked by Inspector Zenigata, who would like to see Lupin behind bars.
Later this fall, Asmik will bring Lupin's exploits to the Saturn, via a new game called Mystery of the Pyramid. Set in Egypt, the game will be different from previous games he has starred in. This time around, Lupin will be constructed of 400 polygons. His movements have been tailored so that he is as close to the animated version as possible.
Players will control Lupin and meet up with his friends Jigan and Goemon in a mission to steal the treasure hidden deep inside an Egyptian pyramid. Anyone familiar with the Lupin series knows that this mission will involve sneaking past Inspector Zenigata and the international police. Once the treasure is found, players will need to guide Lupin out of the pyramid to safety, where he can then bask in the sunlight of his newly found booty.
The game will be similar in style to that of Tomb Raider and other such 3-D action games. Running, jumping, and even swimming will be necessary if Lupin is to steal his goods and escape with them alive.
Mystery of the Pyramids will be available in late 1997.
