The crowdfunding campaign for a Jay & Silent Bob game called Chronic Blunt Punch was a success. The campaign on new crowdfunding site Fig has exceeded its $400,000 target, standing at more than $440,000 at press time. Funding closes today, March 31, at 6 PM PST / 9 PM EST.
With the campaign a success, one stretch goal ($420,000) has been unlocked that introduces more playable characters in addition to Jay and Bob. A full list of these characters has not been announced, but one of them is named The Weenie Punching Fiend.
"We will reveal character choices and communicate with funders to decide which characters will make the cut," the developers said on the game's Fig page.
Additionally, all backers who support the game at any tier will be entered into a drawing to appear in the next movie from Kevin Smith, creator of the Jay & Silent Bob franchise.
Chronic Blunt Punch is a co-op side-scrolling brawler where you play as the titular characters. In addition to punching and kicking, you'll be able to utilize a "conversation combat system" called the Convo Combo mode, which has players throwing out "'Yo' Mama'-like insults." The story has Jay and Bob travelling to a big shopping mall to find out what happened to their missing customers.
Smith and Jason Mewes are lending their voices to the game and are also providing story guidance. The actual development is being done by Super Comboman developer Interabang Entertainment.
Fig differs from Kickstarter and Indiegogo in that, in addition to rewards-based backing, people can actually invest in a game. For Chronic Blunt Punch, the lion's share of funding ($326,000 at press time) is from investments, compared to $116,000 from traditional pledges.
