Massive champion changes incoming-October 2024

This article was originally published on GameSpot's sister site onGamers.com, which was dedicated to esports coverage.

A truly gigantic update is coming our way. From new skins and Summoner Icons, through the much needed Client and Patcher updates and Texture changes among others, Riot are busier than ever. With the beginning of the new, 4.13 Patch cycle, following the 4.12 release on 16th July, the changes have been on the Public Beta Environment and are definitely quite interesting. Below is the post from Meddler, regarding the changes:

Noc was on the list of champs we assessed for this patch, conclusion we came to was that he was in a reasonable spot. He's getting the occasional bit of competitive play at the moment, via his ult has a distinct reason to be picked as a jungler, performs appropriately in solo queue and will probably benefit a little from nerfs to the current top tier junglers. As a result we decided to leave him alone.

Also, for anyone curious, just had a look to see how many champions we're changing in said patch. Not quite 40, but close ish - 30, with (as I read it) 14 champs nerfed, 15 buffed and one with significant gameplay changes focused on playstyle, not power (Sona).

The folks at Surrender at 20 are always up-to-date with the latest PBE news, so we have decided to narrow it down only to the balance changes and highlight those we felt important. Keep in mind that those changes are still subject to additional tweaks, so they are by no means final at this point.

Supports

Braum has received an overall nerf in power. The shield-wielding support is getting a slight decrease in damage on his passive, a mana cost increase on his W and some slight changes on his ultimate. A face we have not seen in a long, long time, Janna, is receiving changes. Her aura range has been increased and her spells got tweaked in a manner which resulted in a slight buff. Whether she will be picked up or not is another matter. The hottest competitive pick at the moment, Nami, has seen an increase in her Ebb and Flow (W) and a movement speed decrease.

Janna is getting love on the PBE.Undoubtedly, Thresh has been given the biggest change. Once a wall from his ultimate is broken, others will deal no damage to enemies who break them and in addition, the lantern will now shield only Thresh and one ally.

Marksmen

Lucian, who has been a thorn in everyone's eyes has been stripped of a very precious effect. His Relentless pursuit (E) no longer removes slows once it is used. Graves on the other hand, has been buffed substantially, with both his Buckshot (Q) and Collateral Damage (R) going up in damage. Vayne will also be adding some AD to her arsenal with a Final Hour (R) buff which is in effect due to a bug fix.

Is the bad boy coming back to competitive play with the AD buffs?

Mid Laners

LeBlanc is getting a Distortion (W) buff in the form of a mana cost reduction. Ziggs is receiving a cooldown increase on Mega Inferno Bomb (R) and Yasuo's wall no longer lists that he builds a percentage of flow when dashing through enemies.

Junglers

The spider queen is getting (potentially) nerfed. Her Cocoon (E) width has been decreased in addition to shortening Rappel (E) with 100 units. In the meantime, Evelynn is getting a mix of nerfs and buffs. The Widowmaker is getting better AP and AD scaling coefficients on her Hate Spikes (Q) which would make her late game a bit better. On the other hand, her Hate Spikes base damage has been lowered. Lee Sin cannot avoid the nerf hammer this time. His Safeguard (W) shield's duration is being lowered and Cripple (E) will no longer grant Attack Speed reduction to enemies.

Top Laners

Kayle is getting an increased AP ration on Righteous Fury (E) and a cooldown decrease on Intervention (R). A champion lurking in the shadows for a long time, Olaf, will see a slight buff. The viking's Undertow (Q) is now on a shorter cooldown and Ragnarock (R) will also see a CD reduction. Finally, the flavour of the month, Gragas, is getting a bit of a nerf. Drunken Rage (W) now costs 30 mana and has a shorter cooldown, but has less damage reduction.
