The Game Initiative, the organization behind the successful Austin Games Conference held last August, is holding a mini-conference and workshop in San Francisco on January 31. Titled "How to Break into the Game Industry," the event is designed for students and professionals intent on getting a job in the growing computer and videogame industry. The full program is available at the Initiative's http://www.thegameinitiative.com/sfbreakin/Web site.
GameSpot spoke to the event's organizer, Christopher Sherman, who told us the reason his organization decided to hold the event. "Games is the one area of tech that has seen growth during this entire tech downturn," said Sherman. "More individuals are now looking to get into the business, but in many ways it hasn't been clear how to take the first steps. The mini-conference gives practical advice and demystifies the process."
As far as what to expect from the event, Sherman added, "The casual nature of this event will allow attendees an unprecedented opportunity to interact with industry veterans, ask questions, and gain valuable contacts."
The following individuals are scheduled to appear:
Chris Down, dwango studios
Jon Grande, Microsoft Game Studios
John Feil, Microsoft
Michael McHale, Konami Digital Entertainment
Robin McShaffry, Mary-Margaret.com
Mitzi McGilvray, Tapwave
John Mundy, Namco Hometek
