TOKYO - If you're talking about software sales for the business shopping time of the year (October-December), then Nintendo dominated the market in Japan. According to the Nikkei Sangyo business newspaper, Nintendo sold 3.4 million units of software domestically (Japan). More than a million copies of Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time have been sold in Japan since the game's late November release. Of course, these numbers include Game Boy software, which is still very popular in Japan.
Konami fell in at number two, selling around 2.8 million units of software in Japan. Giving that company the edge were its top sellers Metal Gear Solid (with over 2 million units sold worldwide) and Beatmania.
Sony landed at number three, selling 1.5 million units of software during that time, including Crash Bandicoot 3.
