Activision and Infinity Ward have pulled the curtain back on the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s multiplayer, and it looks like the game is going to be trying some ambitious things. The title will offer up a wide array of different game types, including 2v2, traditional 6v6, 10v10, 20v20, and a the new 100-player Ground War mode. The game will also introduce some new mechanics, such as the ability to play most maps at night. Watch a Metallica-backed hype trailer, below.

In addition to the modes and features, Modern Warfare makes some tweaks to core gameplay. Auto health regeneration returns, as do killstreaks, including the most powerful of all, the Nuke. There are also a number of new mechanics, including a new tactical sprint, and the ability to mount walls and other objects in order to peek over and get the lay of the land. As already reported, the game includes crossplay, and it’s been confirmed that’s between all platforms, even the PS4.
Customization will be a big part of the game, with Infinity Ward introducing the Gunsmith. Each gun will allow you to add up to five attachments, from a selection of up to 60, allowing you to really make your weapon your own, both in terms of appearance and function. Recent CoD games have tried to focus on character customization, but Infinity Ward has wisely realized it’s the guns players really care about.
Of course, there’s also a multiplayer open beta on the way, with PS4 owners getting first access. Everybody can play the Modern Warfare beta, but those who pre-order get early access. Here are the dates:
