Spider-Man’s Trailer Was In-Game; Insomniac: It’s A Dream, Most of Us Are Working on It-November 2024

The rumors about a new PlayStation 4 exclusive Spider-Man game turned out to be true at Sony Interactive Entertainment's E3 2016 press conference last night.

Insomniac Games, the renown developer behind games like Resistance, Ratchet & Clank, Sunset Overdrive and most recently Edge of Nowhere for the Oculus Rift, is actually working on the game despite rumors talking about Sucker Punch. This bodes well, considering that they mastered traversal mechanics with Sunset Overdrive and that will be particularly important to create a fine Spider-Man game. You can find the bulk of the official info here, but Community and Marketing Lead James Stevenson dropped a few additional tidbits on the Neogaf forums.

First of all, some of you might have asked yourselves if the trailer was made with Computer Graphics (CG) or not. According to Stevenson, it's "in-game" - though of course it might have been touched a bit as customary with most videos. Still, it's not CG so Spider-Man might look very much like that when it's released.

Given that Insomniac has been very active lately (they will also release Song of the Deep next month as part of their deal with GameStop's new GameTrust initiative), some users asked which team in the studio is working on Spider-Man. Stevenson replied that they don't really work like that and most of their team is working on this one; this might suggest that the project is a core focus of Insomniac amidst all the minor (at least in terms of budget) releases they are developing.

Finally, he said that it's a dream and very exciting to be working with Marvel on a Spider-Man game. That's understandable, as we're talking about the most popular comic book hero alongside Superman and Batman.

It's been a long time since we've had a great Spider-Man title. Unfortunately it might be a while since we get to play it, but it might be the beginning of a new era of comic book games for Marvel which has been notably absent from AAA releases with the exception of LEGO titles.
