Bob Odenkirk Teases Dramatic Conclusion To Better Call Saul With Lots Of Violence-February 2024
Feb 6, 2025 1:21 PM

Better Call Saul star Bob Odenkirk has shared some new insight on the upcoming sixth and final season of the Breaking Bad prequel. Speaking to Collider, Odenkirk touched on whether or not Bryan Cranston will direct an episode, what he knows about the Season 6 scripts, and how the success of Breaking Bad has impacted Better Call Saul.

On whether or not Cranston--who plays Walter White in Breaking Bad--will direct an episode, Odenkirk said, "This I do not now." He went on to say he's heard the rumors that Cranston will direct at least one episode, and he's hopeful it will happen.

"I hope that that happens. I've heard that rumor. But I have not seen anything factual that it's going to happen yet," he said.

Regarding the Season 6 storylines, Odenkirk said even he doesn't know where things are headed. So far he's only seen two scripts, and his takeaway is that Better Call Saul is about to get a lot more violent.

"I'm finding out script by script. I'm told that the wheels come off in season 6 and it explodes in a million different directions. That sounds to me like there is a fair amount of violence. But I don't know for a fact," he said.

A lot more violence is expected, given what happened in the Season 5 finale.

Odenkirk went on to say that there are similarities between Jimmy McGill and Walter White in that they both started as caring and compassionate people before getting mixed up in a horrible series of events that led them to become less than ideal citizens. Odenkirk said he wonders if Jimmy/Saul can have a better fate than Walter, but it doesn't seem likely.

"We have a discussion where my point of view is that Walter White became an angry, broken version of himself and I wonder if it would be possible to write--because I like the guy--I wonder if it would be possible to give Jimmy McGill a better ending, a better place to end in than he started in," he said. "I don't know if they're going to do that."

Finally, McGill said one impact that Breaking Bad had on Better Call Saul is that the show trained people to pore over every tiny detail in each scene to look for clues about where the show is headed.

"Breaking Bad trained the audience to care about details. And to know that every little detail will pay off and matter," he said.

Better Call Saul features episodes in black-and-white that take place after the events of Breaking Bad, when Jimmy/Saul is in witness protection. He teased that, by the time Better Call Saul comes to an end, fans will get at least some of the answers they are looking for.

"Everything is going to come together and matter," he said.

Odenkirk is currently making the rounds to promote his new movie, Nobody, an action film where he plays an unassuming man who becomes an ass-kicking action hero. We recently got to see a behind-the-scenes video showing Odenkirk getting in shape and practicing to perform his own stunts in the film under the guidance of John Wick's David Leitch.

While Better Call Saul may be ending with Season 6, AMC has ordered an animated spinoff called Slippin' Jimmy and a new season of the Employee Training mini-series.
