Veteran game design Julian Gollop, best known for creating the XCOM series, is looking to update his 1985 strategy game Chaos: The Battle of Wizards.
The new game, titled Chaos Reborn, will carry on with the original's theme of a group of wizards being forced to fight to the death in an arena. The turn-based RPG will feature its own single-player campaign, with a co-op option, along with competitive multiplayer for between two and six players.
Arenas will also be procedurally generated, and there will be 64 unique spells to choose from.
"In my 30 years of game development, after many critically acclaimed projects, I think the original Chaos stands out as a game with unrealised potential," wrote Gollop on the project's Prefundia page.
"I have spent the last year working on Chaos Reborn, writing the game design, creating a playable prototype and building my team." Chaos Reborn is scheduled to be completed within a year.
Gollop intends to launch a Kickstarter drive for the game in early 2014. The game will initially launch for PC, Mac, and Linux, but iOS and Android versions could also follow. "We would certainly like to do iOS and Android versions, but they will certainly follow after the PC version," said Gollop, "unless we get significant extra funds from our Kickstarter Campaign."
A prototype of the game's multiplayer mode is already up and running, but with placeholder interface and graphics.
