Like the Xbox One, Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox Scorpio will be backwards compatible with Xbox 360 games.
Microsoft’s Director of Xbox and Windows Program Management, Mike Ybarra, confirmed this on Twitter recently. “Of course” will Xbox 360 Backwards compatibility work on the Xbox Scorpio, said Ybarra when asked whether the original Red Dead Redemption will still work on the Scorpio.

Xbox Scorpio Backwards Compatibility isn’t totally surprising due to the popularity of the feature, and likely similarities between the architecture of the Xbox One and Xbox Scorpio.
Microsoft announced Xbox One backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 games during its E3 press conference last year, and new backwards compatible titles have been added to the library on a monthly basis. The most recent addition to the BC library is all-time favorite “Blue Dragon” from developer Mistwalker.
Project Scorpio has yet to be fully detailed, but for now we know that it sports an eight-core CPU and a GPU with 6 teraflops of computing power.
With the Scorpio, Microsoft aims to deliver true native 4K gaming, but Microsoft will let individual developers decide how they will use the Scorpio’s power. “I think people get confused and say our messaging is weird. Not every developer is going to use it that way", said Microsoft’s sr. director of product management, Albert Penello, in a recent interview with The Inner Circle. "Not every developer is going to decide to take that 6TFLOPs and do 4K/60fps with it. They might decide for their game, their engine that they want to do something different and that’s fine. But our goal is to build a box that deliver true 4K games at the same level of fidelity that you see on your current Xbox One games. That is the box we are building. We know we can do it. We wouldn’t have went out and said it if we didn’t think we could do it. We have a lot of work ahead to do it but that is our goal.”
The Xbox Scorpio is slated for a release next year.
