The next-gen consoles have yet to be detailed in full, but it seems like Microsoft will be pushing for high frame rates with its Xbox Scarlett, thanks to a substantial CPU upgrade over the previous generation.
Speaking with the Xbox Official Magazine in the November issue, Aaron Greenberg talked about the Xbox Scarlett CPU, saying that the upgrade will allow developers to make no compromise on frame rates. Doing 4K, 120 FPS is a capability, Greenberg added, that people do not see today on consoles.
But, with the next-gen, I think you’ll see a big upgrade in CPU, because we really want to make sure that you don’t have any compromises with the framerates. Yes, we can do 4K, but we can also do 120 frames per second. So I think that type of capability will be something that people don’t see today
Not a whole lot if known about the Xbox Scarlett as of now. Earlier this month, it's been revealed that the Microsoft next-gen console and the PlayStation 5 will feature different approaches to ray tracing. It was also revealed that the console would come with a 4K camera, but Microsoft eventually confirmed that this will not be the case.
The Xbox Scarlett launches next year worldwide.
