Xbox One Project Scorpio RAM Details Reportedly Leaked
Xbox One Project Scorpio RAM Details Reportedly Leaked-September 2024
Sep 20, 2024 8:50 AM

Some of Project Scorpio's specs have leaked, according to a new report.

Digital Foundry claims it was provided with a document released on Microsoft's development portal that contains some hardware specifications of the new, 4K-ready Xbox One console. The biggest detail is that, unlike Xbox One and Xbox One S, Project Scorpio will apparently not contain ESRAM. Since Microsoft is not allowing the development of Scorpio-only games, developers are required to continue optimizing for ESRAM in the development of upcoming games, as the technology is critical to both Xbox One and Xbox One S.

"ESRAM remains essential to achieving high performance on both Xbox One and Xbox One S," the document says, according to Digital Foundry. "However, Project Scorpio and PC are not provided with ESRAM. Because developers are not allowed to ship a Project Scorpio-only SKU, optimising for ESRAM remains critical to performance on Microsoft platforms."

Elsewhere in the document, which is titled "Reaching 4K and GPU Scaling Across Multiple Xbox Devices," Microsoft reportedly states Scorpio will support delta color compression, a process that reduces the amount of GPU bandwidth required to render color pixels.

Other details are few and far between, but you can check out Digital Foundry's full report in the video above.

Project Scorpio was announced at E3 2016. Microsoft said at the time that the new console will contain eight CPU cores, 320 GB/s memory bandwidth, and six teraflops of performance.

The console is due to launch this holiday, but it remains to be seen when Microsoft will start to show it off in more detail. Xbox boss Phil Spencer has said he is unsure if Microsoft will show off Project Scorpio before E3 in June.

Microsoft has time and again referred to Scorpio as the "most powerful console ever made," and claimed that the performance advantage over the PS4 Pro will be noticeable.

Halo boss Frank O'Connor recently said that, while he's unsure of Project Scorpio's specifics specs, they are "beefier" than what he expected.
