As the coronavirus pandemic has scuttled all public gatherings, companies have been moving their announcements and press events online. Microsoft has announced that as part of its effort, it is hosting a series of indie showcases called ID@Xbox Spotlight.
"Given the global situation right now, of course, we're not able to show off games to press and players in person, so we're excited to announce a new series of videos on the ID@Xbox YouTube Channel that will highlight independent developers--ID@Xbox Spotlight," the company said in a blog post.

As part of the announcement, Microsoft unveiled six Spotlight videos to highlight a wide array of games, some of which were just announced for Xbox One in these presentations for the first time. The videos cover a large selection of games, but Microsoft boasts that it has more than 1,600 games in development through its digital indie publishing program.
This initiative is being made to highlight indies specifically, which Microsoft says it would usually have begun at the Game Developers Conference--which was postponed to late summer. The bigger, triple-A announcements--likely including a detailed breakdown of Xbox Series X--will be coming in a digital presentation the company is planning in lieu of its annual E3 showcase, as E3 was also canceled.
