In January, Ubisoft attached a March release window to the PC edition of World in Conflict: Soviet Assault, the much-anticipated follow-up to the original real-time strategy game from Massive Entertainment. However, the French company's announcement came with some confusion, given that no mention was made of the expected Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions of the game.

　　Today, Ubisoft's silence on the matter came into focus when the publisher confirmed that it currently has no plans to release a console edition of World in Conflict: Soviet Assault. "World of Conflict: Soviet Assault will be released for the PC later this month," an Ubisoft representative told GameSpot. "A console version of World in Conflict is not planned for release at this time."

　　World in Conflict was originally announced for the Xbox 360, and later the PS3, shortly before the original PC game shipped to critical acclaim in 2007. However, the status of the title was brought into question in 2008, when Activision Blizzard announced that it had no plans to publish a number of games--including Soviet Assault--that were previously slated to fall under the Vivendi Games or Sierra Entertainment labels. The game appeared to be saved in November, though, when Ubisoft acquired Massive.

　　Soviet Assault is an expansion to the original, offering a new Soviet story and a number of tweaks to the online multiplayer mode, in addition to the original game's campaign. Speaking to GameSpot earlier this month, lead designer Magnus Jansen said that a lot of the adjustments made to the PC edition of Soviet Assault stemmed from work done on the console games.
