Wonder Woman 1984 Pushed Back Until December-January 2024
Jan 2, 2025 11:55 AM

Wonder Woman 1984 may not be releasing on October 2 like originally intended, but at least we're all getting a great Christmas present this year--for now. The Wonder Woman sequel will be arriving to theaters on December 25, 2020, according to Variety.

"First and foremost let me say how much Gal and I love all our devoted Wonder Woman fans around the world, and your excitement for WW84 couldn't make us happier or more eager for you to see the movie," director Patty Jenkins said in a statement (via Variety). "Because I know how important it is to bring this movie to you on a big screen when all of us can share the experience together, I'm hopeful you won't mind waiting just a little bit longer. With the new date on Christmas Day, we can't wait to spend the holidays with you!"

Now Playing: Wonder Woman 1984 New Trailer Breakdown - 12 Things To Know

While the Wonder Woman 1984 trailer released at DC FanDome gave fans something to be excited for this October, a report from earlier in the week via Deadline stated that because movie theaters are slow to reopen across the United States, Warner Bros. was rethinking about the DC movie's release date.

According to the earlier report, it could get pushed back to November or even late December. A release date in late December may conflict with a movie from Warner's Legendary imprint, Dune, which is set to release on December 18. At the time of this writing, Dune is still scheduled to release on December 18, one week prior to the new WW84 release date.

WW84 was originally going to release on June 24. It was then pushed back to August 14 because of the pandemic, and was pushed back yet again until October 2. While WW84 has yet to release, director Patty Jenkins already has a few ideas for a third film.

The Wonder Woman sequel stars Gal Gadot as the titular hero, Pedro Pascal as the villainous Maxwell Lord, Chris Pine reprising his role as Steve Trevor, and Kristen Wiig playing the villain Barbara Minerva/Cheetah--and the latest trailer gave us a new look at her final form. And there are even more details in the breakdown. And speaking of breakdowns, check out our latest one for the Dune trailer as well.
