BioShock publisher 2K Games has said to CVG it has "no update" on the status of BioShock Vita following the massive layoffs at developer Irrational Games earlier this week.
As owners of the BioShock IP, 2K Games now has to decide on the future of the franchise--and whether that ultimately includes the development and release of BioShock on Vita. Series creator Ken Levine unveiled BioShock Vita at E3 in 2011, saying the game would be built from scratch.
Despite having seen nothing on the title in years, the project has never been officially axed. "I am literally trying to make a match between the parties," said Levine in August last year, talking about establishing a deal between Sony and 2K Games parent company Take-Two Interactive.
"They have to agree and it has to be a business deal," he said at the time. "I've still very much engaged in [BioShock Vita]. I can't personally greenlight the thing myself."
Nothing of BioShock Vita has ever been shown outside of a logo. Will the project ever see the light of day?
