Westwood is getting rid of customer support and quality support at Westwood Pacific's Irvine, Calif., offices. A Westwood spokesperson said that the change had come about as a cost-cutting measure, as its new parent company, EA, has more efficient QA and CS operations already. About 21 workers are affected by the shift in support and have been given the option of taking positions at EA's Redwood offices, those who choose not to go to Redwood will be given severance packages and other options.
In other news, support for games Westwood did not acquire from Virgin US when Virgin went belly-up will cease at the end of January. Then it will be up to Virgin to decide what to do with support. Titles not acquired by Westwood include 7th Guest, 11th Hour, and others. Virgin still has a small presence in the US, and no decision has been made yet regarding what to do with support at month's end.
