Western Digital has announced that Microsoft will include the company's new value-priced hard drive in the Xbox. The drive will be a single-platter 5400rpm 3.5-inch hard drive from Western Digital's new Protege line of EIDE drives. The Protege is said to be the first production drive that uses a single high-density 20GB platter for increased efficiency, though a 10GB version will also be available. Microsoft's most recent specification for the console showed that it would use an 8GB drive for its game saves and other digital storage. Western Digital drives are also used in Microsoft's WebTV set-top boxes.
