Microids dropped by the GameSpot office today to show off Warrior Kings, its upcoming 3D real-time strategy game, which is nearing completion at Black Cactus. The game is set in a medieval fantasy world, and it lets players follow one of three branching single-player campaigns, which are related to the game's three factions--the holy celestials, the mysterious pagans, and the technologically advanced renaissance faction. The goal of the game is to unite the land under a single ruler. The game also features a complete multiplayer mode.
The build we were shown was almost complete, although some optimization work still must be done before the game is released, as the game's load times were long and it experienced some slow down during gameplay. Assuming these issues are addressed, the game looks like it will be a solid alternative to other real-time strategy games coming this year. It features an interesting variety of units and upgrade paths, a detailed resource and supply line system, and entertaining and varied combat that takes into account unit formation and terrain advantages.
Warrior Kings is on track for release in Europe in early to mid-March, and in North America a week or two later. We've posted a group of new screenshots from the game in the gallery above. For more information, take a look at our previous coverage of the game.
