Warcraft movie actor Dominic Cooper has spoken out about the "pressure" he feels to deliver a performance worthy of gamers' expectations. In an interview with CVG, Cooper said part of the challenge of acting in the Warcraft movie is that the universe is a "very specific world" that fans already have a deep connection to. Meeting players' expectations won't be an easy task, he said.
"That's scary, because that's a very specific world, so that really does have people who exist in that world and probably live more of their life in that world than they do in the real world, which is terrifying in itself," Cooper said.
"But what that means is there have been people creating that world for many years and it's got a very specific look, and the characters within that, people have already made their minds up about who they are and what they mean to them," he added. "So that's quite a lot of pressure, in that you feel obligated to give the people who have spent the majority of their life playing it what they expect for it."
Cooper recently signed on to appear in the upcoming Warcraft movie from Legendary Pictures and director by Duncan Jones though his role in the movie--and the rest of the cast's-- is unknown.
The Warcraft movie will feature a combination of live-action and CGI--developed by Academy Award winning studio Industrial Light & Magic (ILM). Visual effects supervisor for the film, Bill Westenhofer, described the film's Orcs as "gritty and real," going on to say the movie will come across as "Avatar meets Game of Thrones."
The film will be released on March 11, 2016. It will be launch in 2D and 3D, and will probably be rated PG-13. Blizzard COO Paul Sams recently explained in detail why the Warcraft movie will not fall on its face like other films based on games that have come before it.
