Volition To Take A Look at What Went Wrong with Agents of Mayhem In A More Intense Way Than Usual-October 2024
Oct 17, 2024 6:06 PM

Volition, the US-based development studio known for series like Red Faction and Saints Row, recently released their new IP Agents of Mayhem.

The game didn't perform well so far, though, particularly when it comes to sales. According to SteamSpy data, only a little over 30K customers purchased the game on PC's most popular digital platform.

This is about to prompt a few changes at Volition. For instance, Jim Boone is coming back as Studio Development Director after a brief stint at Riot. Boone, who worked at Volition since their very first game (Descent: FreeSpace – The Great War, published by Interplay in 1998), was interviewed by GamesIndustry and pointed out that the developers will have to take a look at what went wrong with Agents of Mayhem, a process that he anticipates could be a little more intense than usual.

At least in the immediate term, as you might imagine, there is going to be a lot of analysis. We will be taking a look at Agents of Mayhem and working out the kind of things went well, and what we need to improve on. I don't think it's a secret to say that it didn't meet what our expectations were. So our initial steps will be a lot of self-reflection of the types of things we want to improve upon. Because we are certainly capable of doing great products that people love, so it's not a question of talent or whether we have it in us to do great things... we've been doing that for a long time.

Whenever we finish a game, we always conduct our big post-mortems about all the things that went really well, and what we can improve on. With Agents of Mayhem it is absolutely no different, but it might be a little bit more intense.

Would you look Volition to go back to the Saints Row franchise or perhaps try something new entirely? Let us know below.
