Vita System Update Coming Thursday, Adds Theme Support
Vita System Update Coming Thursday, Adds Theme Support-October 2024
Oct 28, 2024 6:24 PM

A new system update for PlayStation Vita will be released late tonight, the most significant aspect of which is support for themes.

As announced at the Tokyo Game Show in early September, theme support is coming to both Vita and PlayStation 4. There's still no word yet on when PS4 support is coming, but we do know the Vita update (version 3.30) will go live late tonight.

Vita themes can change the look of the start/home screens and application icons, in addition to offering different background music. Currently, customization is limited to changing the background wallpaper on each page of games and apps.

Four non-gaming themes will go on sale on Thursday, with game-specific themes (including Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Tearaway, and Freedom Wars) coming sometime "soon." Prices were not announced. You can get a look at a selection of themes below.

3.30 will also display rarity when viewing trophies, something you've had to resort to looking at on other PlayStation systems up until now. Additionally, the calendar app will now let you send other people event files through PSN messages or email (so they can add them to their own calendars), and someone will no longer need to be your PSN friend for them to be added to events.
