Even though I didn't see the Rose Bowl tonight (instead, I got to watch Bill Gates talk about HD-DVDs and wail the crap out of Steve Ballmer in a demo of Fight Night Round 3 for Xbox 360), hearing Lee Corso say that Vince Young was the greatest college quarterback in history and seeing the final score of tonight's epic showdown between the Trojans and the Longhorns has me impressed with Texas' win and regretting I couldn't sit down and watch every moment of this game which was, by all accounts, one for the ages.

　　I'll admit it, I didn't give Texas a chance in hell to win this game--figuring that USC would out-skill them, out-talent them, and out-play them on both sides of the ball. Yet every time I had a moment to sneak a peek at a television, there Mack Brown's Longhorns were, not only keeping stride with the Trojans but, in the end, overtaking them. Brown's built a reputation as a coach who couldn't win the big game, a reputation that will be seemingly forgotten forever now that he's won arguably the biggest game in college football history.

　　Thinking about the bowls this year, I was tempted to call that epic West Virginia/Georgia shootout the best game of the holidays, with the Penn State/Florida State triple overtime thriller coming in a strong second. But Vince Young and Big Mack Brown (as I will now call him) stole that title with a game that became a classic the instant it ended. I can't wait to get home and watch it on my Tivo... this time all the way through.
