Wow, what a week. First it started out slow, but then came the avalanche of news. Maybe that's what happens when it's a shortened week, eh? Without further ado, let's jump into the headlines that were making news this week on the console side of things (that way, the weekend can start faster!):
Electronic Arts issued a recall of its PlayStation title Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf when it discovered that the South Park short, The Spirit of Christmas, had been placed on the disc. It can only be viewed when the game is inserted into a PC and users access a file called "Zzdummy.dat."
Acclaim's next wrestling game is coming to the N64 in June and the PlayStation in May. The company hasn't released any screenshots of the game yet, but we've got plenty of information on the upcoming title. Wrestling fans will be happy to know that Acclaim has added more of what fans want.
Nintendo's plans for the first half of 1999 are no longer a secret. It has revealed its new releases up until June, and they include a few surprises, such as Pokemon Pinball and Super Mario Bros. for the Game Boy Color. Surprisingly, Smash Brothers, a recently released title in Japan, did not make the list.
Midway came through to show us its latest console products. Among them are Mortal Kombat Special Forces, Hydro Thunder, Gauntlet Legends, and a new Arcade's Greatest Hits title. On the Game Boy sides of things, the company is gearing up to support the Game Boy Color with a number of classic game conversions.
A long time after Nintendo originally released GoldenEye for the N64, people speculated that the Big N would once again go after the license for the superagent for a follow-up. It didn't happen with Tomorrow Never Dies, but lately, speculation indicates that Nintendo has picked up the license for Bond's next flick, The World Is Not Enough.
Bandai has enlisted a nice lineup of titles for its March 4 release of the WonderSwan handheld in Japan. Among launch titles are Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon (adapted from Square's PlayStation title) and Densha de GO! (Taito).
Capcom has announced that it will bring its latest CPS3 game, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, to the PlayStation this summer. Previously, Capcom has said that none of its recent CPS3 games would be brought to the current generation of consoles, but that has since changed.
That's it! But be sure to check out the other stories we posted this week (and there are a lot of those) for the latest video game console news. And of course be sure to come back and check every day for the latest and greatest video game news the industry has to offer. Have a good weekend!
