Once again, the news this week was all about Sega's Dreamcast although Wednesday marked the three year anniversary of the Sony PlayStation's release. Interestingly, Sony didn't make much noise about the console's birthday.
The one title that has the GameSpot News and videogames.com buzzing is Blue Stinger. The action game looks amazing so far - and looks far closer to the high-end graphics of the PC and less like a console title. Blue Stinger puts gamers into a world where you're battling a crew of mutated creatures on a top-secret island. As we learn more, we'll pass on the information.
Two other titles for the Dreamcast are a little more mysterious right now. Still, it's good to finally hear that there may be several titles available for the Dreamcast when it releases. One of the titles, July, has a D2 feel to it but there are few additional details as to the game's plot. The developer does have a web site built, so we can expect some news about July soon. Capcom has also announced a Dreamcast title but it isn't saying what it will be. Speculation within the gaming industry says the title may be a continuation of Resident Evil (Bio Hazard in Japan). Can you imagine playing Resident Evil with graphics like we've already seen with Sonic Adventures? Goodbye outdoors, I'm staying indoors.
In arcade news, Sega is building a updated Star Wars arcade title called Star Wars Trilogy. There are a few shots that we've seen and since the title is being built on the model 3 step 2 system, there's a good chance that the title may only be a short leap from the Dreamcast.
GameSpot News interviewed one of the PlayStation's top play makers, Sony's Phil Harrison, and asked him about what is next for the current PlayStation, the upcoming PDA, and his thoughts on the Dreamcast. Makes for some interesting reading.
