In September this year, Bleeding Heart gallery in Brisbane will play host to Emulator 2011, an 11-day video game-inspired event that aims to celebrate the importance of arcade games between 1978 and 1986, as well as promote the Aussie gaming industry with a series of competitions, panel discussions, and industry showcases.
The highlight of Emulator will be an art exhibition that allows emerging artists from around Australia to pay homage to games like Pacman, Sonic the Hedgehog, Legend of Zelda, Castlevania, Tetris, Donkey Kong, Wonderboy, and Alex the Kid. The event will also include a classic arcade retrospective showcasing a number of original--and playable--arcade machines. These include original parts, cases, and art work; a series of challenge nights that will include Brisbane's first "Old School Arcade Battle" between local games developers; industry networking nights that will encourage local games industry developers to meet and greet; and a local game developers showcase highlighting games in development, as well as future releases from small game designers and major studios.
Emulator 2011 will also allow the local community to buy locally designed and programmed games from iPhone apps to console titles with the aim of strengthening the Aussie game development industry. Part of the money raised during the 11-day program will go to the Starlight Foundation.
Emulator 2011 will take place from Monday, September 19 to Friday, September 30 at Bleeding Heart gallery, 166 Ann Street, Brisbane, Queensland.
