Unfinished Rayman SNES Game Found After 24 Years-September 2024
Sep 22, 2024 3:32 AM

Rayman creator Michel Ancel updated his Instagram feed today with a cool story about a long lost Rayman game that he finally found and booted up.

The developer wrote, "We have found the old unique Rayman SNES ROM !!!! It was sleeping for 24 years ..... Time to wake it up !!!!" His next post was a picture of the game running on a SNES, with a caption teasing (joking?) that he'd like to bring a version of the game to Nintendo's new Switch console.

"It's working !!!! 4 people in the world have seen this . We thought it was lost , but somewhere in the cold electronic circuit, something was still alive," he wrote. "And running at full 60fps !!! should do a Switch version of this."

Earlier this week, Ancel posted about the canceled game, but he didn't sound very optimistic. He wrote, "The game was playable on the Super Nintendo console but was never finished + We've lost the build . All these pixels are lost , like tears in the rain ..."

According to Unseen64, the game featured two-player co-op. Ubisoft shifted the project to support CD-based systems and came out in September 1995 for the original PlayStation and Jaguar. The franchise has spawned numerous sequels, the latest in the core series being 2013's Rayman Legends.

Ancel is now working on Beyond Good & Evil 2, which has been in the works for a long time. The developer recently explained why the game is taking so long to come out.
