Following in the footsteps of their main competitor, Sony, Microsoft has today revealed that the Xbox One will be able to provide its users with fully-integrated Twitch support that, contrary to PS4's current use of Twitch, will allow you to watch broadcasts streamed from any other platform, whether it be PC, mobile or even a PS4.
"It's complete integration," Twitch CEO Emmett Shear told the Associated Press.
"With Twitch streaming confirmed for release on Xbox One, a huge number of console owners are about to be introduced to game broadcasting and the Twitch community,” said Matthew DiPietro, VP of Marketing for Twitch. “More than half the households in the US have a console, and those that do have them own an average of two. This puts Twitch in a staggering number of living rooms. The Twitch experience on Xbox One is easily the most feature-complete of our console integrations, and will hopefully turn on legions of gamers to the Twitch phenomenon."
Microsoft's VP of marketing, Yusuf Mehdi, told the AP earlier today that the reason Twitch wasn't present on the system when it launched was due to them not being able to provide a feature as extensive as they are today. "Our fans really want the full next-gen service, so that's why we decided to take our time, do it right and have it come out in this fashion."
Some other features that will be made readily available for anyone using the service includes:
Being able to initiate live broadcasts via the Kinect.Instantly being able to join a specific broadcaster's party.Chat.Using the Kinect's camera as a webcam throughout the broadcasts. The new Twitch update will reach the Xbox One on the 11th of March, and coincides with the release of the incredibly hyped FPS MMO Titanfall, which will surely be able to provide streamers as well as casual observers with a tremendous reason to check out the newly crafted broadcasting service for the console.
