Twitch announces Host Mode-November 2024

Twitch Tv has announced a new feature for its broadcasting platform called Host Mode.

Host Mode allows a channel owner to host another channel's live broadcast on their channel. This feature is universal with all channels and anyone can host anyones broadcast. Twitch states that it works like embedding a video on a website, except that it functions directly on Twitch Tv.

For example, Scarra, after he has done streaming, will be able to turn on host mode and host Crumbzz's stream. Viewer counts and ad impressions will go directly to Crumbzz as it is still his stream and an option to subscribe to Crumbzz will be available from Scarra's page, but the chatroom will remain part of Scarra's.

“At our core, Twitch is a live video destination, so we’re very interested in increasing the social connectivity between users. We want to help our community discover new broadcasters and give users new and better ways of communicating with each other. Host Mode is a significant step in this direction with other new social features just around the corner.”

Yoh Suzuki, Senior Product Engineer, Twitch.tvTo host a channel simply write /host <channel name> into your Twitch.tv Chat. The hosted channel will supersede your current channel so viewers will not be able to see your channel, even if you are live. To unhost the channel, simply type /unhost into Twitchtv Chat. Your channel will not be listed in the TwitchTv directory either and it's only available via the Twitch Tv website.
