Trine put Finnish indie Frozenbyte on the map. To mark today's launch of Trine 2, the developer revealed just how well its original fantasy action game sold.
Trine 2 is officially the follow-up to a million-seller. According to Frozenbyte, Trine has sold more than 1.1 million copies to date across all platforms, with a bulk of the sales coming from Steam and the Humble Bundle. OnLive was also cited as a "notable part" in the continued sales of the game. Trine launched in mid-2009 for PCs and then expanded to the PlayStation 3, Mac, and OnLive.
Trine puts players in the roles of a thief, knight, and wizard tasked with traversing a series of physics-heavy platforming levels. Each class has different innate abilities, and the characters must be used in conjunction to successfully conquer each side-scrolling area.
Trine 2 launched today for $15 as a PC/Mac SteamPlay title and is set to arrive on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade on December 20 and 21, respectively. A Mac App Store version is slated to launch later this week, and the game is also available directly via Frozenbyte's website.
