Earlier this year Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince was announced, and response from fans was somewhat measured. Trine 3’s move to 3D wasn’t well received, and series developer Frozenbyte hast turned in some so-so games like Shadwen and Has-Been Heroes since. Thankfully, it seems Frozenbyte realizes they’ve made missteps, and are dedicated to making Trine 4 the best game it can be. Get some new Trine 4 footage and a look at Frozenbyte’s operation in the making-off featurette, below.
Here’s what Frozenbyte vice president Joel Kinnunen had to say about the studio’s past mistakes and hopes for Trine 4…
With Trine 3, we maybe got a little bit ambitious and went full 3D. We underestimated the challenge that would bring. We ended up in some difficulties, both in the game itself, and in the company's financial situation. That [took] a pretty hard toll on us.
As a company, we've found that spark back. Trine 4 is going to be bigger, better, more beautiful. The most complete Trine ever. It's got a mesmerizing soundtrack, beautiful backdrops, clever puzzle design, revamped combat system, and all the things that make a Trine game really stand out.
