Some of you might have noticed a change to the stock Android Market. The new interface makes it a little easier to find some of the best games in the marketplace, which is absolutely stuffed with games that are, in fact, not really games but just pictures of Stewie Griffin doing something zany. At any rate, it's time to check out some great games for the Android platform that caught our attention this week.

It's hard to resist the call of the twin-stick shooter in just about any gaming situation, but it's even harder when there are tiny spaceships and lasers involved. Star Blitz puts you in command of a tiny vessel that has to plow through waves of enemies to survive. Fortunately, you have the opportunity to upgrade your ship's weapons and other abilities to help you win the fight. Of course, if you don't have the patience to earn money and upgrade your ship the old-fashioned way, there are plenty of opportunities to upgrade via various social (liking a page on Facebook) or real-money chances to make it all happen a little quicker. Still, it's a fun little shooter that should keep you distracted on those long rides to…somewhere.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to play a first-person shooter where you can't move? Me neither, but Arma II is basically a shooting-range game where you can test out the accuracy and firepower of dozens of guns. What is most notable about this game is that it can only be played if you have Android hardware that uses the Nvidia Tegra processor, which allows for more special effects and detail in polygonal models. Does it show? There are certainly some visual qualities that will catch your eye, but because there's not really much going on in the environment, those visuals lose their impact.

Spiders are totally creepy--especially the ones that have hair. Spiders should not have hair! But have no fear arachnophobes. Greedy Spiders is a puzzle game that gives you the chance to get one over on the eight-legged terrors by depriving them of their insect sustenance. Each level features a web where the spider is generally on one side and insects are on another. You have limited number of chances to cut the appropriate parts of the web and free the insects before the spider makes its way over to chow down on their gooey insides. Greedy Spiders is great for a quick diversion and the difficulty ramps up at a nice pace.

This unassuming game plays like an evolution of the Angry Birds formula where you play as a mouse that bounces around like one of the cartoon Gummi Bears in an effort to retrieve a cheese wheel from a fiendish feline. The major difference between the two games is that the levels in Bouncy Mouse are more dynamic and not static like those in Angry Birds. You progress through the level by bouncing and then latching onto dots that help you get smaller pieces of cheese. You do so by pulling back on the mouse and letting it rip in a specific direction like a slingshot. There's also a nice little risk-versus-reward element at play to get 100 percent in some levels as some pieces of cheese put the bouncy mouse in danger if you don't aim properly.

One word of warning: Psychoban is a large game, about 45MBs, so download with caution if you're on 3G. That aside, it's an interesting puzzle game where you play as a recently lobotomized inmate whose only task is to push crates onto pressure pads and move from one room to the next. It sounds easy enough until you realize that these crates can be accidentally moved into unworkable positions and you have to start combining them to make things like bridges to safely get one crate to its destination. There's plenty of brainteaser action at hand, and the visual style works well with the theme.
