Officials from the Tokyo Game Show reported Monday that the total number of attendees for the Spring Tokyo Game Show 2000 was 131,708, about 30,000 fewer patrons as compared with the last Tokyo Game Show, making this the first show with lower attendance than the previous year's. Although the first day that this year's show was open to the public (which was the second day for our editors) earned higher attendance numbers as compared with last year's TGS, the second public day fell short, thus, the total drop in numbers.
With fewer booths and the lack of high-caliber titles at the show, the result does not necessarily come as a surprise. Hopefully, the Fall Tokyo Game Show on September 22-24 will bring the excitement back to the event.
