Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 Update
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 Update-January 2024
Jan 14, 2025 5:30 PM

Earlier today, while visiting Electronic Arts' Redwood Shores headquarters for the company's Studio Showcase event, we had an opportunity to check out Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 demos on both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. The Xbox 360 demo boasted holes from six of the game's 12 courses, while the PS3 version featured only the 18th at St. Andrews. We were able to spend a decent amount of time with the game on this occasion, and although there's not a whole lot that we can add to last week's preview at this point, we did manage to glean some new information from the EA representatives that were in attendance.

As reported previously, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 will give you the option to use an all-new "true-aiming" system that replaces the overly accurate arrow system with a more challenging one that forces you to aim your ball at a circular area rather than at a specific blade of grass. The size of the circle is determined by a number of factors, including your player's attributes and club selection. Making Tiger's 07 outing more challenging than its recent predecessors has obviously been a priority for the development team, but the goal has been to do this without alienating players who are perfectly happy with the previous games. So, not only will you be able to play using the old aiming system if you prefer, but we were also told today that the game will adapt its difficulty to some extent according to how well you're playing. Exactly how this will work is unclear at this point, but examples that came up during our conversation included CPU players performing differently and simply having the game suggest that you try other challenges and/or control setups.

Another improvement over previous Tiger Woods games being implemented in PGA Tour 07 is the way that your custom players improve as you progress through the game. Rather than earning points that you can spend on individual attributes, you'll spend time in a picturesque practice facility where you can shoot balls at various targets from six different tee boxes. Your performances in the practice facility will translate into improved character stats, which in turn will see the size of your true-aiming circles decrease if you've opted for the new system.

The PlayStation 3 version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 is clearly a ways behind its Xbox 360 counterpart at this point, but both are looking impressive, and we were told that the goal is to have both games look virtually identical by the time they're released. The content of the two games, on the other hand, will likely be different in some way, although no details of console-specific features have been announced at this time. We look forward to bringing you more information on Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 as soon as it becomes available.
