This Dead Space PSX Demake Is More Than Just A Trip Down Nostalgia Lane-October 2024
Oct 21, 2024 4:17 AM

Following a few years of hiatus, the Dead Space series made its comeback earlier this year with a remake of the first entry in the series that mostly does justice to the classic survival horror game. The remake, however, isn't the only way PC players can enjoy all the horrors hiding inside the USG Ishimura.

Earlier this week, a Dead Space PSX-style demake was released online for free, allowing users to experience the starting sequences of the first entry in the series as if it were a game released back in 1998. While the blocky polygonal visuals have a distinct nostalgic flavor, the demake isn't just a mere trip down nostalgia lane, as it comes packed with features such as dismemberment that make it quite fun to play. In case you want to check out the demake before downloading it, you can watch it in action in the video below provided by Extra Playthroughs.

As mentioned above, the Dead Space remake was met with critical acclaim, and it seems like EA may not be done with the franchise, as the publisher was gouging interest for a remake of the second and third entries in the series with a survey shared a month after the remake's release. With the survival-horror genre as a whole being healthier than ever, thanks to the release of other popular titles like the Resident Evil 4 remake and The Last of Us Part I, it would really be surprising for EA to stop pushing the series after bringing it back into the spotlight.

As far as remakes go, the Dead Space remake is among the best released in recent times, offering a massive visual improvement over the original and gameplay tweaks that make the experience feel like a proper, modern one. That said, developer Motive Studio could have been braver, as highlighted by Nathan in his review, as some parts of the game still feel a little dated.

The Dead Space remake is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S worldwide.
