Last week, it's been confirmed that CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 will be a first-person role-playing game, a first for the studio. VR support would enhance immersion greatly, but it seems like it won't be in.
A few hours ago, Reddit user vvit0 asked the Cyberpunk 2077 Official Facebook page about VR support. The answer - VR not found - leaves little doubt on the matter.
On a related note, CDPR CEO Marcin Iwiński has recently discussed development with Kotaku, somewhat confirming some of the issues that the studio had during development. Apparently, CDPR thought they could develop The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 at the same time, but that wasn't the case. However, thanks to the strong pre-production, CDPR was able to kick into high gear once work on The Witcher 3 was complete.
I think it’s also our testament to quality, because theoretically we could have, but then Witcher 3 wouldn’t have been what it was. And again, we thought with expansions, all hands on board, Blood and Wine being 40-50 hours. That’s all thanks to the fact that there was a smaller group working on Cyberpunk. Our initial intention, or bravery, or naivety was, ‘Yeah we’ll pull it off, but hey it’s not working out.’
This time was not wasted because we had a very solid preproduction so we were not rushing things. There was a lot of thinking about the world and the concepts and whatnot. So this helped them accelerate much faster once we had the teams free after The Witcher 3.
Cyberpunk 2077 launches on a yet to be confirmed release date on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
