As Dissidia 012: Duodecim Final Fantasy approaches its Japanese release date, fans are speculating on where the series will go from here. According to a recent issue of Dengeki PlayStation (translated by Andriasang), when producer Tetsuya Nomura was asked about the future of the series, he replied, "There is no next. We're thinking about ending this pattern of Dissidia here." He also states that there will not be an international rerelease for the sequel after launch as was the case with Dissidia Final Fantasy: Universal Tuning.
Nomura continued, saying, "For the Dissidia series, there is the possibility of it appearing in another form. However, we feel that we've done all we can with the battle base. We had the staff work for years on one-on-one battles, so I'd like them to do another genre." He also adds that if given the chance, he would love to do something that follows Dissidia's style of reviving past Final Fantasy characters in 3D, but presented in a way other than a one-on-one fighting game.

When asked about development on the upcoming Sony NGP system during the press conference, Nomura stated that he and producer Yoshinori Kitase were unable to give their opinions and were unable to talk about future plans.
Square Enix also recently revealed a new character for the Dissidia roster: Final Fantasy V's Gilgamesh. The character's fighting style is unique, as he picks up weapons at random during combo strings, making his attack strength and effects unpredictable.
Dissidia 012: Duodecim Final Fantasy will be out on March 3 in Japanese and on March 22 in English. For more tidbits about the game, head over to our previous blog posts.
