The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – How to Increase Weapon Durability-October 2024
Oct 22, 2024 1:46 PM

One of the most controversial mechanics featured in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is weapon durability, which makes every weapon Link finds during his adventure temporary. This mechanic is back in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, but things have changed considerably since the previous entry in the series, as some of the new game's mechanics provide players with the option of making some of the weapons Link finds last for a decently long time.

How to Increase Weapon Durability in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

As some of Hyrule's inhabitants will explain if you talk with them, Ganondorf's return, for some reason, has weakened all weapons made of metal, as the Gloom that spewed forth from the basement of Hyrule Castle has corrupted them. As such, any weapon made of metal in Tears of the Kingdom will have very limited durability, and it shouldn't be used as a base for any decent weapon fusion. They are so fragile that sometimes the base of the weapon will break even before the material you have attached to it with Link's Fuse ability.

This, however, doesn't mean that you should ignore any weapon made of metal, as there are ways to make them last much longer than expected. Long weapons, such as two-handed claymores and spears, can get a huge boost to their durability if you fuse another item with a long reach, such as another spear or claymore, to it. If you fight at the correct range, the item you have attached at its tip will be the one to degrade, allowing you to enjoy the increased attack power resulting from the fusion without damaging the base weapon.

During your time in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, you will also find plenty of weapons that are labeled as sturdy. These weapons will last longer than any other regular weapon, so consider fusing them with strong materials such as diamonds to make them last even longer. Zonite weapons, found mostly on the Sky Islands, are way sturdier than metallic weapons, so combine them with a diamond to have them last a long time.

Unfortunately, any weapon in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will eventually break, but if you want to save some particularly good and rare material, like the aforementioned diamonds, you can salvage them by speaking with Pelison in Tarrey Town in the Akkala Highlands, so that you can use them again. To reach it, hop onto the air tram at the 3792, 1604, 0094 coordinates.
