The Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening Can’t Keep Steady 60 FPS; Performance Analyzed-September 2024
Sep 22, 2024 4:49 AM

The Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening has some performance issues that prevent it from keeping a steady 60 FPS frame rate most of the time.

According to various outlets, like US Gamer, the upcoming remake of the classic entry in the series has some performance issues on the main map, with performance being extremely uneven most of the time, even when there are no enemies on screen. This doesn't seem to be a major problem for most however, but it is still there.

While this might sound like bad news, the frame rate drops in Link's Awakening don't affect my play experience. I still dispatch Moblins with ease, and I don't have a problem executing some of the game's trickier gymnastics, e.g. running and jumping with the Pegasus Boots/Roc's Feather combo.

A new performance analysis video has also been released by NintenDuo, confirming how frame rate is far from being steady.

Considering The Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening has yet to release, there's the chance that some of these issues will be fixed with a day one update.

Earlier this week, some new The Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening footage emerged online, showing the game running in handheld mode

A few months back, Nate had the chance to try out the game, noting how it is extremely faithful to the original, with some tweaks that will improve the experience.

At E3 2019 I got to play a 20-minute demo of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, which covered the iconic opening moments of the game (finding your sword, exploring the Mysterious Forest, making the Magic Powder to get past that darn raccoon) and I can report the game feels exactly as it should. Link is quick and responsive, and slashing enemies with your sword is properly satisfying. The layout of the world doesn’t seem to have changed at all, so I managed to find my way with no problem (which earned me compliments on my Zelda skills from the Nintendo rep demoing the game). This version of the game does offer a few small, yet welcome tweaks – enemies now have actual AI, chasing you and responding to your attacks, rather than just following a pre-set pattern. The game’s menus also look much more elegant, with a new detailed map that should make exploration much easier for folks who don’t have the entire game memorized.

The Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening launches on September 20th worldwide exclusively on Nintendo Switch
