Diablo 2 Remaster Using ESRGAN AI Upscaling Could Look Like This
Diablo 2 Remaster Using ESRGAN AI Upscaling Could Look Like This-October 2024
Oct 26, 2024 8:26 AM

Some screenshots have surfaced online showcasing how a Diablo 2 Remaster could look like.

While Blizzard might very well be working on a Diablo 2 remaster, it has yet to be officially confirmed. Meanwhile, a creative Reddit user has been playing around with AI Generative Adversarial Network ‘ESRGAN’ to see how the AI upscaling would benefit Diablo 2.

According to creator Indoflaven, he used the Manga109 model for ESRGAN in order to upscale these screenshots from its basic 1024x786 source resolution. Truth be told, the result is quite great and shows the potential of a remastered version of this classic. Let's hope that Blizzard takes notes of these screenshots and the possiblities for a remaster. We’ve included the upscaled screenshots down below:

  2 of 9

Diablo 2 was released in 2000 for PC and managed to sell 2 million copies within two months. Many consider the sequel the best Diablo installment to date. An expansion for the game, Lord of Destruction, was released in 2001 and offered two new classes, one new act, new monsters, weapons and much more. In Lord of Destruction, players return to follow the path of Baal, the last of the Prime Evils, into the Barbarian Highlands of the north.

Traveling with hordes of demonic minions, Baal intends to corrupt the powerful Worldstone that protects the whole of the mortal plane from the forces of Hell. Players will face a new series of quests and challenges to prevent the vile minions of the underworld from destroying the world of Sanctuary.

The success of Diablo II has been overwhelming," Mike Morhaime, Blizzard’s former president and co-founder said back in 2000. "We look forward to increasing the game play and depth of Diablo II through the introduction of new character classes and areas to explore."
