The Last of Us Part I First Person Mod Makes Combat Encounters Even More Personal-November 2024
Nov 29, 2024 9:39 PM

Yesterday, YouTuber Voyagers Revenge published an interesting video showing The Last of Us Part I running on PC with a first-person mod.

As you can see in the embedded footage, the game looks great in first-person view. By virtue of the change in perspective, the combat encounters are made even more intense and personal, particularly since Voyagers Revenge was playing on Grounded + difficulty (except for the resources, which were stocked beforehand).

Everything looks to be in order too, which begs the question of why Naughty Dog never bothered to add it to The Last of us Part I in an official capacity. Rockstar Games did it for Grand Theft Auto V, for example, and it worked extremely well.

It is presently unclear whether the mod will be released and, if so, how. Voyagers Revenge has a Patreon, but they don't seem to be sharing mods over there. In a pinned comment, they wrote:

First person view is extremely immersive in this game's post-apocalyptic world. Probably the best as of now. 2000 likes for the next update! We're working hard.

The Last of Us Part I is a remake of the masterpiece originally released in 2013 for PlayStation 3 and later remastered for PlayStation 4. Naughty Dog remade it for PlayStation 5 before releasing it on PC a couple of weeks ago.

The PC release had several technical issues at launch, especially for those configurations with relatively low VRAM. However, Naughty Dog and Iron Galaxy (the studio that handled the PC port) have since released many patches to address most of those problems.

The release of The Last of Us Part I will likely be only the first step for the franchise on the PC platform. Given Sony's policy of slowly porting every one of its PlayStation exclusives to PC, it's fair to assume even Part II will be released at some point.

Then there's the long awaited multiplayer standalone game, which series creator Neil Druckmann called the most ambitious title ever made by Naughty Dog. While Sony's single player games will retain a timed console exclusivity period, live service titles such as The Last of Us are expected to launch day and date on PC, too, possibly with cross-play functionality.

Naughty Dog will release a lot more details on this multiplayer game set in the world of The Last of Us (albeit in a different city, as concept art shows San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge) later this year.
