The Division Cheaters Warned of Permanent Bans
The Division Cheaters Warned of Permanent Bans-November 2024
Nov 18, 2024 9:38 AM

The Division's April update next week will introduce a new player-reporting system that will allow users to alert Ubisoft to problematic behavior, including cheating. Now, Ubisoft has outlined the measures it will take against offending players, potentially including permanent bans from the third-person shooter.

Ubisoft's Yannick Banchereau said during a recent State of the Game presentation that cheaters will face a three-day suspension for their first offense, according to PC Gamer. Get caught cheating a second time and you may face a permanent ban from the game, Banchereau explained.

The Division already has server-side cheat-detection systems, but Banchereau also thanked fans for reporting cheating and the new player-reporting measure next week should make it easier to do that.

"We are not going to pretend that we are 100 percent happy with the situation," he explained. "It is something we're working on, and we should have some better solutions coming in the future. We are looking at improving it. We are catching a lot of people, so it's not as if there was nothing being done, but of course we can always improve on that."

Banchereau also went on to say that some of the reports about "cheating" it's received are actually the result of the "power gap" that exists between some players. When you encounter a significantly higher-level character, it can seem like they are cheating, but this isn't always the case.

"I don't want to diminish the situation or say you guys are wrong, that isn't what I mean," Banchereau said. "I just want to say when you're reporting cheaters and then you see us not taking action against the guy, it could be because the guy was actually not cheating."

When The Division's new patch arrives on April 12, PC players can type /report in the chat to flag an account for Ubisoft to look into further. The reporting feature has only been announced for PC.

The player-reporting feature is just one of many new features and changes coming to The Division next week, as the first raid-like Incursion is also coming with it. You can see everything here in the patch notes.
