Tencent Is Acquiring Dying Light Series Developer Techland’s Majority Share-September 2024
Sep 21, 2024 3:56 PM

Chinese conglomerate Tencent is acquiring the majority share of Dying Light series developer Techland, the Polish team confirmed today.

In a new statement penned by founder and CEO Paweł Marchewka shared today, it was confirmed that the team's ambition to turn Dying Light into the ultimate zombie game experience and to make their upcoming fantasy open world action-RPG live up to players' expectations required "working side-by-side with like-minded friends and strong partners, who share the same vision, passion, and have the willingness to back it up with their knowledge, experience, and capabilities." This partner is Tencent, which is acquiring, as mentioned above, Techland's majority share.

With this partnership with the Chinese conglomerate, Techland will be able to move forward at full speed to realize its vision for its upcoming titles. The team will retain full ownership of their IPS, keep their creative freedom, and continue to operate as it feels best. Paweł Marchewka will continue to serve as the studio's CEO as well.

Tencent has been investing heavily in a lot of different video game studios, so their new venture is hardly surprising. Among the teams that are owned by the conglomerate are Riot Games, Turtle Rock Studios, Funcom, and Sumo Group. The company also has invested in a lot of other companies and development studios such as Epic Games, Bloober Team, FromSoftware, and Platinum Games.
